help me understand…

...minivans.

i know what you’re thinking; you think i want you to explain to me why anyone would want to own one.  wrong, i want you to explain to me why you wouldn’t want one.

whaaaaaaaaaat?

yeah, i want a minvan, and i am not in any way frumpy, lazy, un-cool or from provo.

i think i understand everyone’s hesitation, but i have a hard time understanding it as anything other than foolish pride.  right?  am i missing something?  is it just parents refusing to admit they do in fact have more than two children and they are no longer, nor will they ever be again, young hip and cool people in a world that is all about them.

forbes.com has a minivan or suv quiz to help you decide which you need.  Question #2: My self-esteem would not allow me to own a minivan.

even my very good friend who owns a minivan is comforted by the fact her husband told her that even if she drove a mini-van he would always see her as a jeep girl.  what exactly is wrong with being a minivan girl?

another friend insists that a minivan is like wearing sweats everyday.  like you’ve given up.  given up on what?  given up being selfish.  given up on a life that’s all about you and how “off the chain” you look when you pull out of your driveway?

seriously.  tell me.  what is so insanely uncool about a minivan?  i dare you to convince me otherwise.

If you drive a minivan it means you have given up trying to be anything other than someone wearing pajamas until noon everyday. Sorry, that's the story.

I hate minivans. All bad drivers.

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I love my minivan. I don't care what the Joneses are driving and I don't really care what they think of me. Love my van. Love me in it!

emily,
i cannot agree with you more.
maybe it shows you've given up on worrying what people who actually judge you by what car you drive think about you.
my point of view is that somebody who drives a mini van has a need for a larger, more convenient vehicle and has met that need.
the end.

I never thought I'd pick a minivan, but after driving a borrowed minivan for a couple of weeks before we moved, I have seen the light. They are so easy with kids, so roomy, and the doors on the newer ones do that cool slow-motion, close-on-their-own thing. I have never seen an Escalade pull that off...

I wish a minivan for you!

I have to admitt, I was a complete minivan snob, until I drove one! I drove an SUV with all 3 of my children, their stuff and the occassional grandparent thrown in and let me tell you, it is so much easier in a minivan. I can put all of the kids stuff in the stow-and-go compartments and the boys can easily walk to their seats in the back without climbing over any other seats. I have had it both ways and the minivan way is definitely better.

By the way, some of the most stylish, well put together, make you feel like you are a total slob, moms that I know drive minivans:)

I want a mini van. I have an Isuzu Trooper and swore I'd would rather have my own head cut off than drive a mini van. Then I rode in my sisters van. It has drink holders for everyone! I had a video player in the ceiling for kids to watch! It has climate control for front AND back. Now I want one. so there.

I admit it. I cannot go there. It's my ego. I know that. I know they are easier/more practical. I still shudder when I think of getting one. I drive a station wagon. I hate SUV's too. I like CARS! I guess I want to keep pretending we don't have 4 1/2 kids, and I am NOT that soccer mom. Which I am not. Because I won't let them play soccer. It's my time, and I'm not spending it on a field. But I digress, I hate mini vans. But isn't this all a moot point? I thought you had to have at least 3 kids to qualify for a loan on one of those mom taxi's.
