january sucks butt
apparently today i am 3 (see title).
i'm looking for heat people. i am freezing my white january butt off here. i got a peek at the gas bill (on accident, since it's recently been proven my sanity cannot handle seeing the bills, ethan has been keeping them from me to save us both from disaster area emily), since then the heat doesn't come on until i'm so cold i want to squeeze my whole body into the microwave and hit auto defrost for 100+ lbs.
i've never been a shower once a day girl. my hair and skin is so dry it takes me at least 3 days to get greasy so i shower every other day. since october i've showered daily, for the heat. i have very dry skin in the winter and a daily hot shower isn't helping. anyhoo the hot showers are contributing to the gas bill.
do you see now why i hate winter? i don't ski, my house (where i spend 23 hours a day) is cold and i hate wearing coats (i don't like things on the back of my neck: coats, aprons, scarves etc).
hot chocolate, hand warmers, sweaters, gloves, the heat dish, burning junk mail and cuddling a pot of boiling water are the creative solutions i've come up with.
so, please tell me- how do you stay warm in the winter?

I'm right there with you. I do not understand the concept of skiing in winter. Its too friggin' cold already! And I'm with you on the heat bill, too....
soo....
I wear my Ugg boots all day long.
Two words - fingerless gloves. I can't wear gloves in the house, too impractical, but these are toasty and chic!
I bust by butt to get chores done so I can snuggle under one of Grandma's afghans with one of my two toasty preschoolers - I swear, they generate so much heat - they don't even wear socks in the house right now.
Lastly - I went to Old Navy and bought up a bunch of inexpensive wool sweaters. Cotton isn't warm enough right now, and the wool is a tad itchy so I am always wearing layers...oh, and I do wear a scarf all the time -- it really does make you feel warmer.
Hang in there...

Geez now i just realized my nose, hands and feet are freeeeezing. You will see tomorrow, I have an electric blanket at my chair- NO kidding. This freezing basement where I also spend practically 23 hours a day is COLD!
I hate January sooooo much right now. I've been counting down the days until it is over until I realized it is immediately followed by make-me-feel-like-crap-for-being-single-month. Awesome. Oh, and it will still be cold. Also, this is one of the coldest winters I remember ever in New York. Although I think there was one 7 or so years ago where the Hudson River froze so that was probably colder. But right now, highs in the teens with "feels like" temps well below zero are just too much for me. I stay warm by blasting a space heater away at work (because my office is too damn cold) and wearing fleece pants, a hoodie and a very cozy blanket my parents gave me for Christmas at home. I love snowboarding in the winter and I think snow is beautiful but when you don't have any upsides to winter - it is just cold, dark and miserable. Amen.
It JUST dawned on my why my gas bill has been so high. I'm with you...frozen and trapped inside 23 hours a day.
